The Height Disadvantage

Hello all…Tom here! You probably have been wondering where I have been the last couple weeks (or maybe you haven’t been wondering) but the answer is taking my final exams at UT Arlington. For those who are curious, I received my official transcript last night and scored a 4.0 for the semester…take that Natural Sciences! However, in order to get these stellar grades, I had to make some sacrifices along the way. I have the personality type of a stress junkie…meaning that I focus and perform my best only in stressful situations. If there is no stress, I tend to manufacture my own. While this stress helps me perform in the classroom, it takes a toll on my training, sleep, and eating habits. In fact, over the course of a semester, I lost about 10 pounds due to stress. For those in the know, weightlifting is not a kind activity to tall, lanky guys. In fact, being a tall weightlifter is definitely a height disadvantage. So my mission over the Christmas holidays is to relax and eat…a lot! I hope to start school again in the Spring with that 10lbs back under my belt. This will be a struggle as gaining functional mass is extremely difficult for me, but I am up for the challenge. Everyone here at BlackBox should have a goal, doesn’t matter if it is big or small…it is just important to have one. We should all be working toward something. This month my goal is to eat for a family of four. If you don’t have a goal and can’t think of one…come talk to Dutch or me…I am sure we can think of something.

Happy Holidays Black Box. It has been a pleasure getting to know you all in 2011 and I am looking forward to all the good things to come in 2012!
