F*ck Allergies

For many of us, its that time of the year again. Time to get outside, then do everything you can to hide inside for the rest of the day. For people like me who love the sunshine but have brutal allergies, this time of the year is harsh. I am in a constant state of congestion and always searching for something that doesn’t make me sleepy or feel like a medicine head ( I hate taking Allergy Medicine).

Luckily this time of the year is short for me. I am able to get through without drugs but for many of you, it lasts all spring and into summer until everything is dead then it comes back again in the fall. I have been there and i have a good answer for you.

Allergies are an inflammatory response from your body to outside irritants. There are common allergies like grass and pollen and then there less common ones like food allergies. They cause your body to react to them usually with an inflamed state that results in your body trying to expel whatever it was that you are allergic to. For example, my eyes water and my nose runs when my allergies get funky. Both responses to get the irritant OUT.

So how do we impact our allergies without drugs? Surprise, Food is the key. My allergies flare up when i get some sort of Dairy, alcohol or sugar in my diet. All of these things produce an autoimmune response from the body which weakens your ability to fight off the allergens you are bombarded with daily. As a result i work hard to keep that stuff out of my diet but on occasion it sneaks in and i suffer for it. Its usually NOT work it.
Wheat and gluten are another thing that affect my allergies but those are usually kept out of my diet and only get in by accident. I usually have other symptoms i am worried about when that happens so the allergies are just icing on the cake.

Many of you take allergy medicine on a daily basis and i would argue with you all day about the necessity of taking it all the time. All you have to do is clean up your diet and you will be able to more easily predict when your allergies are going to flare up. Don’t take my word for it. You can continue taking your meds or you can give this crazy diet thing a chance and get yourself off the meds. Maybe not all the time but most of the time you can be free of the med head that all these allergy medicines give you.
Your choice.

Has anyone noticed a difference in your allergies by changing your diet?

I recently noticed that my allergies always flare up after a night of poor sleep…or just not enough of it.
