Weightlifter Kirstin Bradfield is the March BlackBox Member of the Month! She came to us last year to focus on improving her weightlifting and hasn’t looked back since. We are thrilled at all the work she puts in and the progress she has already made! Check out our interview with her below.
How did you get involved in weightlifting? Paul [boyfriend] and I tried CrossFit for a couple years, and I never did get around to liking all the running and doing things “for time”. I decided to focus on getting strong, so we made the switch!
What has been your biggest accomplishment or proudest moment at BlackBox? At the BB Championships, I went 6 for 6 for the first time (with comp PRs) and it felt great!
What are your weightlifting goals, short term and long term? I want to qualify to compete at Nationals! Also, I want to keep lifting for as long as I can and be a competitive masters athlete.
You are an extremely talented artist and have your own Etsy shop (which is located here). Tell us more about that! Thank you! I have been an artist my whole life. Even though it hasn’t always been my focus, it’s my favorite hobby and I will keep drawing/painting until I die.
If you could do anything you wanted for an entire day, what would you do? I would sit on a beach somewhere with my dog and Paul (no talking) and have food and drinks brought to us. I just want to do nothing.
What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? Start a meditation practice.
If you could only eat three foods for the rest of your life, what would they be? If I lived in a dream land where I didn’t count my macros, I would eat cake, burritos, and cookies.
Tell us something about yourself that we probably don’t know or wouldn’t guess. I’m left-handed and belong to the best 10% of the population. I’m even a member of the “International Left-Hander’s Club” and keep the certificate hung at my desk at work.
If you could hang out with any fictional character (book, movie, TV, etc), who would it be and why? Shadow from the movie “Homeward Bound.” He seems like such a chill dog, and dogs are way better than people so…
What is something you’d love to try but haven’t yet? I’d love to try traveling outside of the U.S. and eat all the food.
Lastly, leave us with your favorite lyrics, word of advice, sarcastic comment, or anything else you want! I am so grateful to part of Black Box! I look forward to getting jacked and never being able to find clothes that fit my legs/shoulders/back.
