Lets have a little heart to heart. I hate to get serious on you but these are serious times. Its time to make a difference in your own life and it can only happen through action. I see the scenario all the time where people SAY one thing but DO something else. Now, if you really take a deeper look at this situation, you will see that what this person said was not in any way meant. How do you know this?
This persons actions in no way reflect their intentions, or what they said they would do. If you say something, and really mean it, your actions will reflect your words. Lets look at an example:
Person A states in their initial consult that they want to increase their Front Squat from 80 kg to 100kg and are hoping to do it in 8 weeks. This is totally doable depending on the persons training age and likely if they are new to the sport, it will happen. Now, if this person shows up 3-5 days a week, they will reach their goals. A great example of this is Tom. Although he was not in the gym yesterday, i think everyone knows him and how persistent he is. He is so persistent that he did the max front squat yesterday while on vacation and hit a pretty impressive PR at 140kg.
Person B states they want to lose 15 lbs over the next 10 weeks which again is a very realistic goal. However, person B shows up at most 2x a week and is always struggling with diet issues. I have told some of you this but since we are dishing out tough love here it is: The ONE thing you can control in your life, outside of extraordinary circumstances (like war), is what you put in your mouth. Everything you put in your mouth was done consciously. So, Person B struggles with some diet issues and 5 weeks in (if they are still coming in the gym) have not reached anywhere near their goal. This is an example of actions not following words. If the person truly meant what they said, they would do what they said. So despite saying something is very important, they do not act on it.
This should not make you feel guilty although it likely will. I know i have some issues like this and i make a conscious effort to address them daily. All i ask from you is to be deliberate in what you do. If you say that something is important, and saying this kind of thing out loud to someone is very helpful in keeping you accountable, then take steps everyday to make this thing happen.
