At BlackBox Fort Worth we have a 4 step program to optimal healthy eating. Step 1 is to stop getting fatter. While that sounds a bit harsh, it is as simple as we can make it. The first thing you have to do to reclaim your health is to manage your blood sugar and Stop Getting Fatter.
Your blood sugar rises in the presence of high carbohydrate foods (bread, pasta, sugar, high glycemic fruits…). When your body notices excess sugar in the blood (sugar you are not immediately using for energy) it releases a storage hormone called Insulin. At this moment, you just got fatter.
If we can control this insulin response to blood sugar then we can keep you from getting fatter and hopefully move you closer to any weightloss goal you may have. This will also help you feel more energetic throughout the day while curbing cravings for sugar and high energy foods.
With the simple knowledge that high carb food raise blood sugar and high blood sugar stimulates the release of insulin, what would be the key to stopping weight gain? Exactly! Eat less Carbs.
Eating less carbs will help with controlling blood sugar but there a couple more key factors that need to be addressed in order to really benefit from step 1 of our 4 step program.
