Above is me hitting a PR snatch at 115KGs
Dutch, Why do we snatch so much?
Well, let me tell you…
The snatch is a very technical movement that needs years of work to master. However; to get the benefits of doing it you just need to be adequate. Obviously the better your technique the better your results but for the generalist its a fun movement to learn and offers some pretty cool benefits.
I have heard the snatch called the most athletic movement in sport and i agree to a point. It is uber technical and requires both strength and speed when done at high levels. What is even more important is that it can help improve both strength in speed for those new to the movement. When you teach your muscles to move faster via the snatch, other things like jumping and sprinting become more efficient and more well ingrained in the body. This is a huge benefit for those competitive athletes out there that need to be faster and stronger.
For those just interested in general fitness, the snatch can provide strength, flexibility, joint mobility and neuromuscular adaptation (Allows your body to use more muscle without growing the muscle larger). The first three are HUGE for quality of life and your ability to perform everyday activities. For example if you have trouble touching your toes, the snatch, with proper integration, will help you develop the flexibility and mobility needed for that.
This is a simple look at some general benefits. I urge you not to let the complexity of the movement dissuade you from doing it and doing it often. If you are coming into Black Box Fort Worth, you already know that you will be doing it quite often and despite yourself will get pretty good at it.
